Following our discussion with Maghweb’s youth workers, we organised a workshop with young people from our network here in Palermo as the first step in our action plan to test the activity and methodologies that we built together in Ogulin, Croatia. We carried out an exercise that was designed to stimulate reflection and action around truly inclusive collaboration and teambuilding: each participant had to work together to create a square from a rope with a series of different rules and roles. The exercise enabled the participants to step into the shoes of the others and experience empathetic collaboration: for example some members of the group were blindfolded or some other members were not allowed to speak. The activity enabled the participants to think collectively and fruitfully about ways of communicating and acting together that are genuinely inclusive and capable of embracing a communicative and collaborative model that allows for a sensitive co-existence of humanities’ differences. We look forward to bringing forward more experiences relating to youth’s understanding of diversity and inclusion in Palermo in times to come, thanks to our important and memorable journey in Ogulin.
